It’s hard to know what it would be like to wear a burqa all day every day. But for the short time I was under one I found that, more than anything, the burqa cutback on what I was able to see. You can’t just look down with your eyes, you have look down with your head. Do Afgani women play sports?

Watching everyone else put on the burqa made me realize how easy it is to lose a sense of identity. If I imagined the whole class in a burqa I think it would negatively effect our learning. On the other hand, I would easily recognize someone wearing one of these–
